Our Child

He was 2 when we finally figured out something was
wrong. When he would go to his father's overnight and he would come
back throwing these awful fits that had us in chaos day and night.
When he turned 3 and was allowed into Headstart, the teachers were
concerned because he was growling and hurting the other kids.
We got him checked for allergies because we saw an allergic reaction on
his face when he ate shrimp. After a long hard struggle with counselors,
doctors, psychiatrists etc, we finally got a partial answer. Not only
does he have many food and environmental allergies, but he also has
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Turret's.
Of course OCD and Turret's do not present themselves the same in children
as they do in adults.
Here is the kicker, he is now 5 years old and his father doesn't believe
that there is anything "wrong" with him. As a matter of fact, he told
one of Jaerrid's doctors that "...she is just trying to get a diagnosis to
excuse his behavior." If you know anything about children with these
disorders then you know that their "behavior" is nothing in the ordinary.
It is obsessive, extreme, and hard to handle. These are not kids that
can just go from one environment to another nor are they children that
understand how to appropriately express their feelings and accept an answer
of no. Meltdowns are inevitable.
