OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Many people think of USA's Monk character when they think about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, but did you know that the stereotype is not typical for small children?

My son was diagnosed when he was 3 years old.  He wasn't only "picky" he would have a full blown meltdown over simple things like putting a spoon in his food, he wouldn't allow anyone to hold his cup for him when he got milk, he had to have his coat zipped a particular way, etc.  When I say meltdown, I don't mean a simple temper tantrum I mean where they scream, their body gets rigid, faces turn red, they scratch, bite, hit, and they cannot control this.  A temper tantrum is much different.  I like it when he has tantrums because they are easier for me to handle.

He does like to count things now that he can, it is very much like a comfort thing for him to count things he encounters.  He also gets hooked on things like a particular song and won't be done with it until he has learned every word of it.

Believe it or not, it was a great sign that he could put together a 100 piece puzzle by 4 yrs old.  It takes a certain amount of obsessiveness to be able to do this.

We do what we can to give him a good life.

You tell this little cutie that the only thing standing between him and safety - LIFE- is a dollar.

How much do you spend on coffee everyday?

We are not asking for much, maybe even just 1 day of going without coffee.  Just think if many people did that for him, he could finally be SAFE!
